Line 41.3 · Learning desire by living it
You sort real longing from empty fantasy by chasing things and discovering how they actually feel. Some hungers, once tasted, turn out hollow, and that's the point: each disappointment teaches you which dreams are worth the fuel. The trial isn't failure, it's how your imagination grows honest.
Line 41.4 · Anticipation shared through people
Your imagination catches fire in company, and the dreams you build with people you already trust are the ones that lead somewhere. Fantasy offered to the right circle becomes shared momentum; held alone or forced on strangers, the same pressure curdles into private restlessness that never finds its outlet.
Line 41.5 · Expected to imagine the way forward
People look to you to picture what's coming and to carry the hope that something better waits ahead. When your sense of the future meets their need, you become a source of real momentum; when the dream can't deliver, that same projection turns into blame, so be honest about what's genuinely possible.
Line 41.6 · Imagination matured into vision
Across your life the raw pressure of fantasy slowly ripens into a trustworthy feel for what's genuinely worth wanting. Early on you chase every appetite; later you learn to step back, watch, and let only the real possibilities pull you. In time your sense of the future becomes something others lean on.

The I Ching — Hexagram 41, Decrease
Gate 41 is built directly on this hexagram — the ancient oracle Human Design grew out of.
Decrease is the time of drawing down from below to enrich what stands above, and when this is carried by genuine sincerity it brings the highest good fortune, no fault, and the freedom to keep on and to set out toward a goal — for even two modest bowls, offered with a true heart, are gift enough. Below the mountain lies the still lake: as the lake quietly lowers itself to nourish the slopes above, the wise person trims what runs to excess within, mastering flashes of anger and reining in restless appetite.
Line 41.1
Once your own work is settled it is right to set it aside and rush to another's aid, yet measure the gift; to pour yourself out completely is no fault-free virtue, so give exactly as much as truly helps and no more.
Line 41.2
Hold steady to your own ground. This is not the hour to push forward into some venture, for forcing the matter goes wrong; by keeping yourself intact rather than draining away to please, you are able to enrich others.
Line 41.3
When three travel as one, friction wears the company down until one falls away; the person who walks alone soon meets the single companion meant for them. True partnership comes only when the crowd is pared back to the genuine pair.
Line 41.4
Lessen your own failings and do it without dragging your feet, and the one you hope for comes hurrying gladly to meet you; ease what burdens you, and what you need arrives in joy, with no blame.
Line 41.5
Fortune arrives that nothing can turn aside — as though enriched by ten pairs of tortoise shells whose answer no one can gainsay. When destiny favors you this completely, do not refuse it; simply receive.
Line 41.6
Now you can pour benefit into others while losing nothing yourself, increasing all around you without stripping anything from those below. Your good spreads outward as blessing for everyone, and you gather a wide following, no longer bound to a single household.
